Statement of Declaration
Date: October 25, 2017
Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance (MECA), recognized by World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and Asian Evangelical Alliance (AEA), hereby issues the following statement.
1. Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance (MECA) strongly condemns the ARSA terrorist violence and is deeply saddened by the injury, death, threats, forced religious conversion, rape and other violations of all people in the Rakhine including minority ethnic groups.
2. Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance (MECA) deeply regrets the omission of accurate information and bias reporting by some international media outlets and by some countries.
3. The Republic of the Union of Myanmar is a country where people from different race and religion coexist and live peacefully, with the right to worship freely. Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance is deeply concerned about the international pressure place on the government with possible sanctions which make it seem like these countries themselves are violating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
4. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaimed by the United Nations targets the individual and not a nation nor a particular race. The incident of Rakhine state has led to some countries taking a bias stand for an individual group. This kind of action, neglects the overall well-being of all ethnic and religious groups and their socio-economic development. Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance is deeply saddened on behalf of all nationals in Myanmar.
5. Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance believes that the government of Myanmar will do its best to find a solution to the current situation. Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance also acknowledges the government’s efforts and contribution for Myanmar.
6. Myanmar Evangelical Christian Alliance would like to request the international community to give consideration to the efforts being made by the government at a time when democracy is at its infancy, for the peace and welfare of all people in Myanmar and give support to its efforts.
